Note that work out times are different for the mile swim to allow the younger kids more time to complete their mile. Work out times for Friday are:

14 & under 7:00-7:30
15 & over 7:30-8:00
8 & under 8:00-9:15

Mile Swim Info - Adjusted Training Times posted June 28, 2009

It is time again to gear up for the Marlins Mile Swim.  The Marlins Mile Swim will take place on Friday July 10th.  For those of you new to the team this year, the kids will swim 1 mile during practice time in lieu of their regular work out.  The goal is to swim a mile, but the swimmers can swim as many laps as they can – especially for the 8 & unders!  The swimmers can get flat-rate pledges or pledge by the lap.  Please note that work out times will different this year to allow the younger kids more time to complete the mile swim.  They will be as follows.

14 & under 7:00-7:30
15 & over 7:30-8:00
8 & under 8:00-9:15
10 & under 9:15-10:30
12 & under 10:30-11:45

Pledge envelopes will be handed out at both meets and at practise on Wed (6/24) morning.  We have some great incentives this year!  The swimmers that earn the highest dollar amount in 3 different age categories will each get a $25 Target Gift Card.  We will also be holding a raffle for a $100 Target Gift Card!  Each swimmer will get a raffle ticket for every $25  they pledge over the $25 suggested minimum.  We will do the drawing at the end of season team picnic.  This is our primary fund raiser this year so lets go all out for the team! Money raised will go to help fund our scholarship program as well as our equipment fund for future equipment purchases.

Lastly the mile swim cannot take place without our all important parent volunteers.  We will need 20 timers/counters  and lots of snack and drink volunteers.   Below is the sign up.  You can email me to sign up at suzlowry@comcast.net or  I will have a sign up at the volunteer table during the home meet this week and next.

Thank you,
Susie Lowry

Many companies in our area will pay non profits for time that their employees have spent volunteering!  This is an excellent way for our team to raise money and keep fees low.  Please take a look at the volunteer time matching information sheet to see if your company participates.  If you need additional information when filling out your paperwork, ie: tax ID # etc, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Stacey King, at swrakings@comcast.net.

Team Photos Rescheduled!!   posted June 21, 2009

The team photo date has been rescheduled and will be on Tuesday, June 23rd at 10:00

Practice sessions on Tuesday only are adjusted (and optional) to accomodate the team photo schedule:
     7:00-8:00am:  13-14 and 15&Over age groups
     8:00-9:00am:  9-10 and 11-12 age groups
     9:00-9:30am:  8&Under age group

These will be beneficial practices to attend because we will be working on open turns for butterfly, breaststroke, and the IM as well as relay starts.  Half the group will practice each at opposite ends of the pool and then the two groups will switch.

Please note that Sportraits will be setting up their equipment starting at 9:00, so please ask your swimmers to be careful around the pool deck during that time.  There will be extra order forms at the pool on Tuesday in case you did not get one or have misplaced it.

No Team Photos or Practice on Friday! updated June 18, 2009

The team photos originally scheduled for Friday, June 19th have been postponed until a later date. There is also NO practice on Friday.  Sleep in late and enjoy a day off!!  We'll post a new date for photos as soon as possible.  See you at practice on Monday!

Marlins vs. Somerset! posted June 15, 2009

Tuesday is a HOME meet. Please arrive at the pool at 4:30 and pick up your white slips from your team captains.  (We are working out a glitch with the computer system and hope to have the slips a little bigger than they were at the intersquad meet, please be patient while we figure it out!) Your team captains (Hannah & David) have not received their blue shirts yet but they will try to make themselves known.

Swimmers need to be in the water for warm-ups at 4:45. If you arrive after 4:45 you will need to check in with the coaches because the captains need to warm up too.

We are going to be able to park on the lower ball field this year! Please park on the field so that we can leave room for our guests in the parking lot. We are trying to be good neighbors and avoid parking out on the street. We may need a few volunteers to direct traffic onto the field, if you are available to help that would be great!

Congratulations to Ben Coyne, he won the Front & Center parking spot raffle for volunteering at the intersquad meet. Remember to sign in for volunteering so that you can get your name in to the raffle box!

Thursday is an AWAY meet at Somerset.  A map to the pool is here.  Please plan on arriving at 5:00 to check in. Swimmers will need to be in the water for warm ups at 5:15.

Somerset is a beautiful pool with very limited seating. Please pack light and be prepared to share your space with your teammates.

Coach Dani, Coach Aaron and Coach Ashley

Time Trials This Week! posted June 7, 2009

Another great week of practice is already behind us! The coaches are very impressed with how hard everyone has been working, as well as how supportive and spirited all of our swimmers are. We've got just one week before we begin meets! The line-up for the intersquad has been made and we hope to post it early this week.

Each day this week we will have a different time trial for all of our swimmers: IM on Monday, freestyle on Tuesday, backstroke on Wednesday, breaststroke on Thursday, and butterfly on Friday. We ask that you attend each practice this week, or we will double up time-trials the following day. Before each time trial we will discuss what each race should look like, including starts and turns, as well as talk about how we can be good sports and have great team spirit.

So we can get done with time trials as quickly as possible at the beginning of each practice, we would love to have any help we can get timing, from either older swimmers or parents. This way we can have more swimmers race at once and be more accurate with times.

Coach Dani, Coach Aaron and Coach Ashley
